Festival This weekend!

Annafest" in Forchheim
Similar to the Bergkirchweih in Erlangen this traditional public fair takes place every year during the last week in July in Forchheim on the "cellar-hill" (close to Bamberg).
History:
The origins of the fair are not clear, but three occasions were important:
  • On the 26th of July, the name-day of "holy Anna", tutelary Saint of Forchheim, the people of Forchheim went on a pilgrimage to the Anna-church in Unterweilersbach. On their way home, they had a rest at "cellar-hill" to have a cold beer.
  • From 1840 on the main-shooting of the riflemen's meeting took place on the 26th of. July, close to the "cellar-hill".
  • From the time of the Thirty Years' War on (1618-48) more and more cellars were dug into the rocks, to use the constant temperature of six to ten degrees centigrade for the storage of beer, wine and food items. From 1722 42 people owning a cellar were registered, most of them innkeepers and brewers.
Up to 500,000 visitors are attracted to the cellar-hill during the ten days of the festival. With 30,000 seats there is more space to sit there than at the festival in Erlangen, (the Bergkirchweih). It is possible to sit and eat in the middle of the forest and drink your beer. From 1p.m. to 11 p.m. bands play a variety of songs. Even more: there is a range of different show-booths and fair-attractions.
The best way to get there is by public transport. The walk from the train station takes about ten minutes

    Get a Hobby

While my Husband is at work all day what is a girl with no work visa to do? GET A HOBBY! Sure there is the every day cleaning and cooking, maybe a workout here and there to keep one entertained but there must be more!?!?
I have chosen to go Martha Stewart on everyone! not the "felon Martha" (everyone makes mistakes) but the "lets get crafty Martha!"
My new found fun and easy hobby is jewelry making. It is the perfect way to show of your creative side and showcase your accomplishments. For supplies lets face it, craft stores are few and far between in Germany so I found using ETSY.com   for my supplies was the way to go.  Etsy has a very wide range of supplies and the shipping is relatively cheap depending on what shop you buy from.

    Simply Delicious!

Something to add to the list of things I  miss *Frozen Cookie dough*
Although I may not have the luxury of purchasing pre-made cookie dough that did not stop me from making my own. I found a very simple recipe for sugar cookies @ allrecipes.com that worked like a charm!
Here are mini versions of my mothers fruit pizza.
All you need is a simple sugar cookie recipe, cream cheese frosting (I prefer to make my own), Fruit of your choice (I used peaches, strawberries, blueberries, & raspberries), and glaze to pour over top.

Glaze recipe: For glaze, in a small saucepan, combine a half cup of sugar and  two tablespoons of cornstarch. Stir in  one three fourths cup of water and one tablespoon on lemon juice until smooth. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thickened. Let cool and drizzle over fruit. Refrigerate until chilled.

    Need a Beach?

Are you missing your weekend vacations to the OBX, Miami, Virgina Beach, or if you must The Jersey shore?
Fret no more! My husband and I stumbled across this mirage in the desert last year and are very thrilled it is back this year,  Summer in the City!  Its a beachy scene in the middle of Nuremberg. An escape from city life to sand volleyball and tiki bars!
